Sword Art Online Took the Idea From Ready Player One
How many of us have heard this? Omg you're reading blahblah? That's totally a ripoff of blank-bare? Blank-blank did information technology first. How am you lot read blahblah? You have to run across blank-bare.Sure, we can say our favorite volume stole an thought from a movie or vice versa? Merely what if it'due south something less sinister? What if everything is Influenced?
In this new series: Influenced, we touch titles in books, movies, and other media that are so like nosotros can't help simply wonder who influenced who? Today we tackle our book of the calendar week Ready Player One and one of it's similar foes. And no it isn't Black Mirror. Though thinking near some of these Blackness Mirror episodes #anotherday…
Today we will be discussing:
Since Ready Player On eastward was announced as the final book, I've been bombarded with loads to evidence suggesting that these ii titles are basically the same matter. At present I haven't seen all or read of Sword Art Online (I read the 1st three volumes of the manga and watched mid-way through the 2nd flavour) and I'thou only almost halfway through Set Player 1, but still the evidence was compelling to ask: Who influenced Who?
What is Sword Art Online?
SAO is an calorie-free novel manga and anime series written by Reki Kawahara. It takes place in the time to come in an virtual reality MMORP called Sword Fine art Online with a helmet that allows users to experience senses. 10,000 players sign on for it's launch, only to realize that they are trapped in the game. The insane game programmer informs the players that they must beat all 100 floors of Aincrad, a steel castle which is the setting of SAO, if they wish to be free. Those who endure in-game deaths or forcibly remove the NerveGear out-of-game will suffer existent-life deaths. Need a summary of Ready Player One?
Release Dates?
SAO manga serial began publication on Apr 10, 2009, with a spin-off series launching in October 2012. The anime adaptation came out in July of 2012 and notwithstanding arrogance new episodes today.
Gear up Histrion One was released on August 16th 2011.
Consensus: These release dates are close enough that Klein or Kawahara could have both thought of these ideas on their own.
How Close is the Plot?
Permit's list the similarities shall we:
- They both exist in the future
- They both have kooky enigmatic game developers who leave wild final-rights
- They both use a virtual reality helmet were you can experience all five-senses; Though RPO has a body-adjust besides
- They both involve VR technology having existent life consequences including death
- They both exist in the VR world and in the existent-world revealing how awful both can be.
- They both have a main grapheme who is a shy downwards-on-their-luck male protagonist who on a journey of self discovery that changes him forever (#everynovelever)
Consensus: Despite all of this, the plots aren't really that shut. RPO feels like more than like a kooky ode to the 80s with Hunger-games esque danger. While SAO is more than near individual quests and the characters are really stuck in the game, non using escapism similar in RPO. Also there is like a whole anime-category based on people being in virtual reality. If Ready Player One copied Sword Art Online, it would've had to copy like 25 other manga/animes.
All the same, I was able to discover this cute brew-upwardly of the Ready Player 1 vox-over trailer with clips from Sword Art Online!
Final thoughts:
I tin can't decide, but I'chiliad leaning towards no. What practice yous recall? Did Gear up Player I rip-off Sword Art Online? Were they both just influenced by each other? Did they both rip-off something else?
Let's make up one's mind the comments!
